What the well-dressed Christian wears
Living up our salvation in the now, the present tense, pt2
Colossians 3:12-17
There has been a legal death in your life, and it’s one you should be overjoyed with. In Colossians 2:20 and 3:3, the blessed apostle declares, as he does in Gal 2:20, that you have died with Christ on that Roman cross, and that a new you is now not only alive, but is so enveloped and in union with the resurrected Son of God, Jesus, that God the Father loves and is in communion with you to the same intensity as that of His beloved Son, and that the new you will be revealed in stupendous, blinding glory with the Son at the rapture (3:3-4).
In v5 you are told that, since there is a death, there needs to be a funeral, a burial and a yard sale to get rid of the stuff from the former life too! V6-7 reminds us of the walking-dead lifestyle of the you that formerly lived, and aren’t you glad that that “you” is dead?! Yikes! V8-9 are the yard sale of the stuff, the clothing of the old you, the stuff of the former death-march.
In v10 is the beginning of dressing in your new, fresh set of excellent, truly fine quality clothes, given as a gift to you at your new birth. And when you do that, you find when you look in the mirror, that you begin to see the very image of God Himself, in the flesh… Jesus!
