How the well-dressed Christian prays & behaves
Living up our salvation in the now, the present tense, pt3
Colossians 4:2-6
Is there some item that is so important to your daily life that you feel undressed or unsettled and unprepared if you leave home without it? For some it might be your pocket knife, or a purse or wallet. For many, your phone. Perhaps it’s a set of things for you, like keys, phone and purse or wallet.
As we saw in ch3, Paul describes the well dressed Christian – the one whose life is prepared for moral and spiritual action, prepared to walk. In the last part of ch3 and the 1st verse of ch4 he gives some specific examples of how that is worked out in certain common and challenging circumstances confronting believers in ancient Colossae. Beginning in 4:2, Paul pans out to the daily pattern, the walk of faith that is to be the godly set of habits ingrained in the life of all the spiritually well-dressed believers in Colossae.
The first item, the essential habit in walking out the door into everyday life, that item you just can’t leave home without, because you’ll need it all day, is prayer!
“The most important question is not how much work is being done but how much Jesus is doing through you. Look up; God’s ceiling is unlimited. Learn to look on Jesus, and more and more you will find that Jesus is directing your wandering look toward the Holy Spirit.” – – Corrie Ten Boom
