Hope in God’s promises, an anchor for our souls – Growth springs up from deep-rooted assurance. Hebrews 6:9-20

Hebrews 6:9-20

What gives life and upward force to our spiritual growth? It is hope! And hope is the knowledge that God has made certain glorious promises to us and the earnest expectation that God will fulfill those promises. The Holy Spirit speaks to us in today’s text to urge us as the Father’s own justified children to lean on, to grow in, to expand our hearts into the fullness of our assurance of the goodness of God and His kind and Fatherly special intentions for us.

This, by the way, is not assurance of one’s justification that is spoken of. This passage assumes that is already true. Rather, the Spirit here encourages us to grow in assurance of something else: To press into our personal trust in the goodness, the kind intentions and plans and special grace the Father has for each of us. The Father desires that we expand our hearts in fuller trust and expectation that He has the best things for us, anchored in His own nature.

This is hope, a firm anchor for our needy souls.
